چکیده

BACKGROUND: Peritonitis is one of the common emergencies and multiple organisms have been implicated in pathogenesis. Inappropriate prolonged use antibiotics attributed to emergence antibiotic resistance. METHODS: Retrospective observational study, from 1st January 2018 31st December 2019(Two years). Patients with secondary peritonitis undergoing surgery are included this study. Common pathogens its sensitivity pattern peritoneal fluid, blood surgical site were studied. RESULTS: Perforation most cause peritonitis. Cefaperazone-sulbactum Piperacillin-tazobactum empirical prescribed. Escherichia coli followed by Klebsiella pneumonia commonest microorganism isolated fluid found adequate for antibiotics. Enterococus candida organism culture. E-coli wound swab showed higher resistance Large intestine perforation has percentage infection. CONCLUSION: pneumoniae The shown be sensitive cavity. Wound isolates hence isolating assessing might prudent. Due geographical variation trends microorganism, it prudent surveillance on a local basis that can recommend appropriate

Comparison of Possum and P-Possum as Audit Tools in Patients Undergoing Emergency Laparotomy for Secondary Bacterial Peritonitis

Background : Though POSSUM and P-POSSUM have been proposed as accurate tools of audit, our initial experience has not been encouraging. Therefore, a prospective study was conducted to find their accuracy for predicting outcome in peritonitis patients who underwent emergency laparotomy. Methods : 172 patients treated in single surgical unit over two years were included. Expected morbidity and mo...

Distribution of Pathogens and Antibiotic Sensitivity Profile in Oncologic Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Infection is one of the most serious complications and leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with hematological-oncological disorders. We aimed to assess distribution of pathogens and their antibiotic resistance pattern in patients admitted to hematology-oncology department of Namazi Hospital, Shiraz from April 2016 to March 2017.  Methods: The current cross-sectiona...

Microbial profile and antibiotic sensitivity pattern in acute bacterial cholangitis.

INTRODUCTION The changing antimicrobial sensitivity pattern of causative organisms poses a therapeutic challenge in treating patients with acute cholangitis. We therefore evaluated the microbial profile and sensitivity pattern to antibiotics in patients with acute bacterial cholangitis. METHODS Data of patients above 18 years of age with acute bacterial cholangitis seen between January 2004 a...

Efficacy of POSSUM score in predicting the outcome in patients undergoing emergency laparotomy.

UNLABELLED Monitoring of surgical outcome is increasingly important part of governance of surgical activity. THE AIM OF THE STUDY POSSUM scoring system was applied prospectively to determine how it performed in predicting morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing emergency laparotomy in our hospital, a group known to be at high risk of complications and death. MATERIAL AND METHODS A to...
